Post 05/11/2015 17:53     Subject: Do you get Mother's Day cards from your mom or MIL?

My mom died the year my first child was born. She was excited about my first Mother's Day but did not live to see it. Still makes me sad we never got to have one together as moms.

My DH calls his mom on MD and I get on the phone and chat and wish her a happy day. She is pretty laid back so that is enough from her point of view.

Why is that annoying? She's trying to be nice!

My MIL sent an uncomfortably gushing card. I wish she wouldn't.

Get over the gushy card isue, it sounds like she has taken you into her life... and if that is the case, one day, those cards may be one of the few reminders of what she was like...

My mom gives me a gift. My MIL does not.

That's okay, she's my mom and she loves me.

The year my older child was born, my MIL kept telling my wife how excited she was about mother's day. My wife kind of hinted, not that subtlety, that her mom should wish her happy mother's day since she was a mother now. Instead, my MIL launched into a speech about how this was the best mother's day ever because it was really a double mother's day . . . because now she was both a mom and a grandma. She is a nice lady but I just don't think she got my wife's point.

I get cards from my mom, my little brother (who is now a dad too, but tells me I was sort of a mom figure to him), and my grandma. My MIL sends me flowers! I tend to send cards to my mom, MIL, grandmothers, sisters in law, and any friends who have just become moms. I am a big card person, though, and I think it's such a little thing to do for someone that can really have a positive impact.

Same here. I don't get it.

No. We always got MIL a card because she cared about that stuff. My mother isnt although we typically do have dinner with her on Mother's Day. But no card.

Yes from my MIL, no from my mom. Same with birthdays.

No. But I don't always give them cards. They always get flowers and/or a small gift from us. They usually wish me a Happy Mothers Day (MIL more than mo), but that's it.

Same here.

Same here. I have flowers sent to my mother and spend the day with my kids.

My mom not only sends me a card and a gift but to my daughter as well. There's no need for this and I've told her but she has a lot of time on her hands.
