If OP's child is in school and she is a SAHM, she has all the hours to go to the gym or eat bon-bons. What gives it away as a troll post is that she is using after care at school for her child, once the school day is over, which does not make any sense whatsoever.

Your economic situation or why you work has no bearing on any SAHM's economic situation.

If you have your kids in school all day why do you need the aftercare hours? You sound lazy.

I've noticed this, too. I think this and other threads with "SAHM" in the title are made up. I'm a SAHM and I don't know any SAHMs with kids in aftercare. It wouldn't make sense.

Why wouldnt it make sense? Im not OP. I am a sahm, full time, and my child attends aftercare 4 days a week. He doesnt go on fridays, as i dedicate that day to doing something fun, one on one with him. Monday through thursday he goes because he gets to play with his friends. There is no play time during school hours. I have a difficult newborn at home so that plays into it also. We can afford aftercare. If the child has no problem with it, as well as the rest of the household, then im not sure why its a big deal.

Difficult newborn? Boo effing hoo. Aftercare is for working parents.

I agree completely. As soon as I saw the thread title and read OP's post, I knew it was a troll. Whoever it is just loves to stir things up, and always against SAHMs.

I agree with the first part of this post. I think there is someone who just likes to stir this particular pot and watch everyone dance around. I do think there are circumstances in which a SAHP would use aftercare. Not my business, either way.

++10000 Dual income families are lucky to get those spots. I have never heard of a SAHP using the regular before/aftercare.

My kids never did after school programs (we didn't qualify) although there were some after school activities that we could have paid for them to participate in (like a running club, robotics, etc). Our catholic K through 8 has a wonderful aftercare program. I use it because I work full time. But others use it because the kids LOVE IT. As one poster said, it's a chance for unstructured play outside with their friends. They see each other in school but the don't PLAY. My DD gets her homework done in study hall with older kids there to help and then spends the next two hours playing outside with her friends. She is filthy and tired when she gets home and that works really well for me. So if her kids like it, why should a SAHM NOT use it? Cheap, fun babysitting with other kids so she can go grocery shopping by herself, make dinner w/o whining kids rushing her? Seems like a no-brainer to me...
