OP, my best advice to you is not to overthink their behavior. Work on a thicker skin-it will serve you well in the years to come. There are only a few more weeks left in the school year and he will be in public special ed preschool next year, right?

During the last several weeks of school many kids "ramp up." They get wilder, sillier, etc. Could this be happening? This kind of reaction happened when my DC was dx w ADHD when he was in pre-k (4-5). We pulled him from mainstream private bc of the vibes we got and how he was treated (like a deviant). Put him in Maddux (grateful) and could not be happier.

I don't have a kid with ASD, but I do have a kid who acts out. In my experience, people don't things are a problem until its out of control. So he may have been hitting or pushing lightly once in a while and without really hurting the others, but this it got more frequent and harder and then all of a sudden there is a problem. When they should have been dealing with it all along.
I think a major change out of nowhere is something to watch. It means something. either they weren't reporting before, something changes to trigger him, or they are discriminating. So keep you eye on it. Maybe gently ask some questions.

I agree that the social demands are getting more complex and that's what actually prompted us to seek out a private eval. I guess I'm just skeptical that the demands have suddenly changed so much in a month that I have to hear about it all the time when everything was fine up until then. They also emailed me last week to say he had a "good" day. He's had 200+ good days, why are they emailing now? I'm SURE they don't send that to all the parents. I don't perceive they're trying to help us by flagging the issues because they're not keeping a record or anything, just catching me before or after school or sending emails. I know I'm feeling overwhelmed and raw since the diagnosis so I could be overreacting, I just wish they were more supportive instead of suddenly flagging all these new "issues." They seem very anxious to me and it feels like one more thing to manage right now. Anyway, thanks DCUM for letting me vent.
They may be making an effort to balance out some of the negative feedback they've been giving you by sharing something positive. There was no need to do this before because they weren't giving you all these negative reports.
I'm sorry you're going through this. My DC's behavior has had ups and downs over the years, and it is so stressful to hear negative, negative, negative.
