Anyone with the same experience? Please share it with me.



If these tests were already given this school year, these new test scores do not count. GMU should ask if they had been taken within 6 months of these new scores. This is true of all these types of tests and IQ tests. Most score higher in the WISC IV than the CogAT. Why pay to have these tests re-taken anyway?

I disagree. Diana Dahlgren was really great. If you can get an appointment, you should go for it.

130 score on what test? Wisc?? And was not found eligible for AAP?

If you really want your child to be in the AAP level IV and money permits, then you can do WISC test. My daughters's scores were around 130 and was not eligible. I went to Mindwell with Dr.Pamela Smith. She was good and provided very legitemate score. I applied with that score and our daughter got in.
I believe AAP is not GT anymore and any parents/ kids willing to do hard work should be easily be able to breeze through.

I have two friends who were very pleased with Joel Adler. He's in Bethesda, so may not be as busy as the psychologists in Fairfax County.

Do a search on DCUM AAP forum for psychologist who does WISC? You better hurry - my friend just got the last spot on the 28th for a psychologist to get her DC tested and will be paying extra $50 to get the results right after the test (since the appeal deadline is the day after).

Get a WISC test done. To the appeal form add a parent recommendation letter and point out why you think your son should be in AAPP. I suggest use similar words as the ones in the GBRS definitions to describe your son's talents. If your son has done anything special in school (like projects etc.) add them to the package. The reason I say in school work is because you want to rule out parent help with the work done.

Your AART may have some sample work to give you but I wouldn't hold my breath on them helping. In my case they were not resourceful at all. Plus all appeals are decided in the county (out of school's hand anyway).

We have been in your situation and that's what we did and got in with appeal. Best of luck.


I forgot to mention you can get WISC done privately with a psychologist who can give you their license to be added to the appeal package.
