Never. If I have an actual question I email or text. I'll call for her bday. I don't even call my own mother weekly, just as needed, and we are pretty close.

Almost never. And never to chat.

That is totally DH's job--as is arranging logisrics for any trip or visit, which he is not always good at, but darned if I am going to be in charge.

My mom calls DW often. DW gets along with my mom better than I do.

Also want to add that, I am so glad that I have a daughter.

No. That's my husband's job. All communication like calling, emails and holiday cards for MIL is done by DH. He does his mom, I do mine. Simple.

Definitely not. I don't like to just chat on the phone. If I did I'd be calling my own mother.

Yes, I do. I really like her and have fun talking to her. Plus, DH isn't the best at initiating calls but I know she likes being kept in the loop (plus DH will often join in the call once I initiate).

But it really depends on how you feel about your MIL and whether you guys have anything to talk about.

I don't blame you... You should tell your husband to tell his mother just that!

Does your husband call YOUR mom?
I have never called MIL in 18 years of marriage.

Nope. She doesn't speak English and I don't speak Arabic. We get along fabulously.

He just feels that I should. I asked if she said something to him and he said no, I just ought to call her. To be fair, my grandmother is still alive and he initiates calls to her at least once a week. He's a much more sociable person than I am.

He sounds very dutiful. I can see why you'd be reluctant b/c there's really nothing to "chat about." Maybe compromise with DH to call her every two weeks or once a month? Save up some anecdote to relate about your kid. Even if it's a short call and it feels artificial, it won't hurt.

OP here - I have no kid. I'm dealing with infertility and have nothing good to report to her. I'm depressed and I don't want to chit-chat with anyone. Plus I just don't like talking on the phone.
