Both of you watch the field while talking and listening to each other with your ears; the conversation can be interrupted and on-off as things happen on the field. What's so hard about this??

I've definifely said "I'm going to go focus on the game now so I dont miss dd scoring a goal and getting railed on it for a whole month (wink wink)." Just be friendly and there should be no problem.
Why do you have to do this? You WANT to watch the game. Why act like some frivolous chatting is more important than your kid's playing time. I enjoy watching the games. I like cheering for my child. I hate the chatty moms who are clueless about the game and think it is cool to not care about their kid's sports.
OP, I sit with the Dads or I keep score/ do the books.

How about you pretend to be a decent person for an hour.
To think I still wonder why I don't have any friends.
It's possible to be a decent person who doesn't like to chat. Especially in the circumstances OP describes.

I've tried standing at the fences, but my other DCs want to sit in the bleachers.
Any helpful techniques? DH suggests I should wear headphones, but I think this would look weird considering I have other DCs with me. DH is usually on the field with the players.
