You'd be suprised how many wives refuse to clean the splash and how many men agree to sit down, because it just makes more sense in your home LOL

My DH stands but I taught my two boys to sit which was working great. But now at 5 they've decided to stand and there is pee all over the toilet and it's horrible to clean up regularly.

Mine sits as well. His mother is Asian and taught him to sit at an early age.

Ehm...no. There is a word for men who sit down and there is a word for men who stand up - neither is an insult. They both simply mean:

Sitzpinkler - Man who sits when peeing
Stehpinkler - Man who stands when peeing

They are just slang type words and you don't hear educated people using them at all. More like urban dictionary words.

I am from Germany and I can confirm that boys here are raised to pee sitting down when there's a toilet to sit down on. It's the hygienic thing to do and men here grow up knowing that a man doesn't need to spread his pee everywhere to be a real man. My husband is from the US. He used to pee standing up but since I made it very clear that I will only clean the bathroom if there is no urine splashed around everywhere he started sitting down. He doesn't like cleaning the toilet, especially after he discovered how disgusting it really gets when he pees standing up.

So...I am pretty sure the moment men are told to clean up their own pee they will ALL start peeing sitting down - at least at home. Which is what they should be doing because it really is disgusting.

It's a sound issue. As a pp said, in the middle of the night, if I stand and pee, odds are DW will wake up. Old house so door doesn't close completely and insulate the sounds.

But I stand during normal hours.

Absolutely sits, as do our sons. DH was trained this way by his dad and told it's what gentlemen do. Cannot imagine what it would be like in a house w/DH & 3 boys otherwise.

All of the places we have lived have had at least 1.5 bathrooms. Our home now has a master bath with a separate watetr closet. When we have stayed in hotels, there wasn't any necessity for one of us to be on the toilet and one to be doing something else in there. We have shared bathrooms in terms of both getting ready in there at the same time, but using the toilet in front of each other has been a boundary we have very happily not crossed and not had a need to.

I guess I don't really understand the necessity to be in there when one person is on the toilet unless you have only one bathroom and it is an "urgent" situation. Even then, the one of us not using the toilet would step out - there are other mirrors to do makeup at or finish my hair.

I've been married for 30 years and I don't know what he does. Nor do I want to. TMI for me!

I only know one man that's sits to pee and it's because his wife insists.

Not mine. That's too sissy for me. If I saw my husband sit to pee, I would seriously question his manhood and probably leave him.

Mine often sits. I hate it, I worry about hygiene. What if his or is touches the sides of the bowl? Yuk

I sit when I have to both pee and poop (sorry, I have toddlers, which oddly affects the part of the brain responsible for vocabulary) or when I stop to read. In the old days it was books or newspapers. Now it's the phone.

Quite a lot of my male friends keep books in the bathroom. Pre-kids, I used to keep an assortment of humor and short reads (like Reader's Digest magazine, Chicken Soup books, etc) in the bathroom to read when sitting down.
