This. My apartment building had laundry going at all hours.

If the other tenants are grad students, they will be pissed. When I was in grad school, I slept late on weekends. I also stayed up late, and made an effort to keep noise down for my non-grad student neighbors. Are your neighbors considerate?

It all depends on how the tenants would feel.

I personally would not like to get on bad terms with my neighbors so if you can, why not meet the people who reside in the above apt. and ask them if it would be okay.

Good communication and mutual respect are paramount in good neighbor relations.

Any time is ok unless you're drying sneakers.

My condo building locks the laundry rooms overnight and they are open from 7am to 11pm and I think those are reasonable times.

We live in a big apt building here in DC and the laundry rooms on each floor are open 6am to midnight.

8am is totally fine.

Personally, the white noise of washer/dryers wouldn't bother me at all, so I say do it whenever. It's some of the related noises that might have the potential to wake me up. Things like loud footsteps, letting the door slam closed, having a loud conversation, leaving the buzzer that sounds when the laundry finished on. Those are pretty easily controlled though, so I think as long as you don't intend to bring any children in to the laundry room with you you should be good.

8 at the very earliest. 9 is better.

how big is the building? If there is only one apt. above the laundry then just ask them if they hear a lot of noise from it. If they don't hear noise, then I would say start right in during early hours. If they do hear it, ask them if 8am is too early or would 9 be better. Maybe they are up and out on Saturdays but prefer to sleep on Sundays or vice versa. I'm sure they would appreciate you consideration in asking.

I would not even give it a second thought. If the room is open, use it!

I'd go whenever. We don't all work days

8 is totally fine. 6 would probably be fine, as long as you weren't drying anything with metal or heavy parts that would bang on the walls of the dryer.

Kudos to you for being considerate!

Can you just ask the people in that apartment if they can hear the noise from the laundry room? You may be worrying about nothing.

I think 8 is totally fine. Are washer/dryers really that loud that they bother neighbors when used at odd times? I live in a condo and can hear the washer/dryers of the apartments above and below me, but not loudly, and people always do laundry at odd hours.
