Yeah, get a small stuffed animal. No way is she too old.

Go out and catch an insect or earth worm. Then you can release it back into the yard.

The Waterhorse is a movie as well.

A five year old is in NO WAY too old for pretend play. That's ridiculous.

What is really wrong about your post is that you want to take an animal and -- in reality -- kill it, in order to entertain your child. OP, I think you need a time-out to think about this.

Does she say she's too big for stuffed animals or do YOU, OP?

put the egg in a basket and ask her to let her favorite stuffed animal sit on it for a couple days. In a couple days, wait til she's asleep and take out the egg and put in a new, smaller stuffed animal.

She'll find it magical and no living thing will be harmed.

Not an egg, but my 5 year old has enjoyed a butterfly kit at preschool. It's like this: http://amzn.com/B00000ISC5

Or there were all sorts of eggs at easter that dissolve and have a toy inside. Also there are dino eggs that come with a hammer that you crack/dig a dino baby out of.

Frankly, if you're determined to see this out and don't care about this decorative egg, I'd say, huh, something must be wrong. Let the kid break it, and play off that you were fooled/tricked. My five year old is all about people getting fooled.

OP you are really, really ignorant. Please educate yourself about releasing non-native wildlife. Great example is ball pythons in the Everglades.

If you buy an animal you are committing to caring for it for its whole, natural life. The animals they sell in pet stores aren't nstive to this area. They will die if you release them.

Buy a pretty hummingbird sun catcher piece of inanimate decor.

What about a snake or lizard? DD is 5 and too old for stuffed toys.

Five is too old for stuffed toys?? I'm genuinely sad to hear that.

I agree with all the PPs. It's not a real egg. Your DD is old enough to realize that. You don't need a real animal.

Then what do you plan on doing with it? Pet stores sell already hatched pet snakes and lizards. Most have very specific habitats, and will die if you release it. Don't release in public parks or trails.

You sound very misinformed.

+1

Leave the live animals out of it. Anything you can buy at the pet store will not be suitable to release/abandon in your back yard.

Buy a stuffed dragon or something equally fanciful.

++1 Maybe a unicorn or a troll

Head lice hatch from eggs. I can get you some.
