I think because the winter was so long, a lot of things ended up blooming at the same time rather than at different times, as would have happened if winter ended earlier. Spring has been compressed.

When it leafs out and the leaves are not baby leaves, are they green or that sort of black/ burgundy?

Thundercloud plum. Purple flowers starting to drop and deep plum leaves coming out.
