We had the wake for my Dad at the church an hour before the service, much easier for all involved.

I am not sure she has ever clearly expressed it. But her husband in buried in IT and she is from there as well - very proud of it. She also loved her husband very much, so the thinking is to have her ashes scattered around him and her city later on, since we can't do a burial there. He was buried there because he died there while on a trip.
We (husband and I) will be cremated as well when the time comes, so there isn't a family plot or something here… she would just be alone somewhere. This way she can at least be with her husband.
About religious services, he has decided to have one in the city where she used to live and where all her friends are. The cremation will be here.
If you want to respect her religion, consult a Catholic priest before you plan to scatter her ashes. The Catholic thinking is that cremated remains are to be treated with the same respect as the body to be buried. As a Catholic, I wouldn't think that she was alone because her body or her remains were buried in a Catholic cemetery here.

The Catholic church no longer forbids cremation, but I have never known a practicing Catholic to be buried without a funeral Mass. Does she have a parish in this country? Is there a chaplain at the hospice who could help you?
