The person that processes your return has nothing to do with how much you pay for taxes. It is all set by Congress. The clerk is just doing his/her job...

And that person probably hates paying taxes as much as the rest of us, so maybe they'd get a good laugh out of the whole thing.

Me too. I'm always anyone is lazy enough to pay the $20, although I guess I could see it if you didn't have easy access to a printer.

If you owe in VA, you have to mail in the remittance part of it.

If you are a Maryland resident and have out of state taxable income (this includes VA if 1099 and not W2), then you must file a paper copy of your other state return to claim the credit. And turbotax does not properly print the relevant MD form.

I file in CA and MD and do it electronically.

Me too. I file ny and md, both electronically and claimed the credit.

16:19 here.

Hopefully you are not doing this as a MD resident. From the instructions for MD form 502CR (http://forms.marylandtaxes.com/14_forms/502CR.pdf)

It is important that a copy of the tax return that was filed with the other state be attached to your Maryland return

I'm not sure how one electronically files the copy of the out-of-state return with the Comptroller of MD. TurboTax will not do it. Perhaps another package does.

I have an accountant and they are able to attach my CA and federal returns to my MD returns and file electronically. All 3 get done at the same time. Tax due is electronically deducted from my checking account. I do have to pay my quarterly estimated taxes to all 3 entities by mail.

Virginia charges extra to e-file, I think around $30. So why would I e-file? I'm paying them enough as it is
