So if you can't afford to pay $1,000 per month (2 kids) then leave? Ok. Great glad to know MV has parents that think that way. Even the most recent PP is saying she wished they'd offer more for what they charge. Many families are really struggling to pay each month. You know the families that live on teacher salaries or non profit salaries but don't yet qualify for subsidized. No matter how you slice it almost $500 is a LOT for aftercare. There are aftercare programs out there that pick up in bus and do martial arts, swimming and many others for that price. The school should consider the entire community when creating an aftercare program.

I have the impression that the aftercare is expensive because some families are highly subsidized. MUndo is a very progressive school. We pay about $1200 for two kids for aftercare,before care, lunch, and snacks.
To the person who said it is awful, that is not our experience at all. Kids are happy and looked after by loving native Spanish speakers. I do wish the programming were higher end given the price. On my wish list would be:
Outings to the arboretum or other nature spots on Wednesdays
Coached soccer.
Small group musical instrument instruction
Etc.
because the school is so progressive, they do not allow al cart selections.

I am the one paying 2k and that is a nanny share. 4k is not absurd. its the going rate for full time nanny (legal).

We just did the W2 for our nanny and "all in" we are spending about 27k/year. And thats just our half. I don't know why anyone bothers to work in a day care for 9/hour when, if you are good, could get a nanny share job making over 50k with benefits, paid holidays etc.

I pay $450 every two weeks for my in-home daycare.

FWIW, MV does offer a sliding scale.

At our charter school the family association has kicked in money for certain things like before care, playground equipment. If the cost of aftercare is exorbitant, perhaps this where they could contribute as well?

The after care program at MV (per their website and tour) is run by the school as an extension really of the school day. The emphasis on Spanish language continues, as does the overall philosophy regarding learning, discipline, and there are specials that are cycled throughout. E.g. for six weeks the kids will do capoeira, then the following six weeks, do a cooking class.

$450 does not make it that much different from the other HRCS. The inability to drop in for before care, and the extra fee for 6-6:30 pm, however does set it apart as particularly unfriendly.
