Had a child in lower school at McD. It's very lovely - strong academics, music program (Laura also runs Suzuki piano program at Peabody, good arts, nice for kids to have swimming and horses. It IS sporty - more so than Gilman in the lower school in our experience. Do not do aftercare - use bus system - bc bus is free, almost no kids stay for aftercare and it's no fun for kids.

OP - I agree Park is where you should look.

St. Paul's is coed in lower school. Not exactly progressive, though far less conservative than its reputation

That is a hike!! Grew up in Glenelg before they added a high school.

McDonogh is a great school especially for kids who are sporty. It's also a good environment for art and music kids. It's challenging academically and has a lovely campus.

We really liked McDonogh, though we ended up opting for single sex education for our children.

We applied for our daughter and were accepted but opted for a single sex school. Even with the bus, we felt it was too much of a commute, and weren't crazy about the emphasis placed on sports and recruiting students to play sports. Beautiful campus, though.

Good school but not in Baltimore. Nice if you are in Columbia/Howard County though.
