A 9 to 7 job seems pretty normal to me, but I grew up in continental Europe, where children have dinner later than the afternoon hour of 5-6pm, so unless the children are toddlers, they can still have dinner with their parents.

PP you were responding to. Were you tired yesterday that you felt the need to respond like this? Insulting someone reflexively says more about you than about me.
In my circle, some spouses travel 50% of the time, or arrive home at 10pm, or go to work at 6am... one enterprising father gets home by dinner time, then works in his home office until the wee hours of the morning. These are the years they need to prove themselves and they all make (or will get promoted to) at least 300K or far more.
They are all in different "business" fields. Start-ups and 500 companies have quite different atmospheres.
