And apparently there is no permit required from FFX county to fill in a pool!

+1 I love swimming, but we are not in Florida so this is at most a 4 month pool, and it so hurts housing values b/c families don't want their kids to drown.

You can do it. Just start digging.

Installing an in-ground pool without a permit: yup, you're crazy. Crazy to risk that much liability without insurance on it. Crazy to install the pool and hope to sell your house when you are ready to move on. Some buyers will check permitting and won't be able to get homeowner's insurance without permitted additions or pools. No HO insurance, no mortgage. There is a real reason some relocation companies will not offer to buy your house if there is an in-ground pool on the property. The reason is those are often the toughest houses to sell and take the longest.

An above ground pool: Why? Ugly as all get go. Go to the community pool instead and let someone else pay for the liability and chemicals needed to keep it clean.

Yes, you have liability whether you fill the pool or not.

We put a pool in four years ago. It is quite a production and everyone on your block will know about it.

A reputable company won't do it because if they get caught they could lose their license. So OP will end up with the shady second-rate pool installer.

An irreputable company wouldn't even do this. That's my point. You cannot do it without getting caught- plain and simple.

Companies typical charge a fee to get the permit for you on top of the actual permit fee. If it's a straightforward project, you can save money by getting the permit yourself.

No, you're not crazy. I bet you can get away with it and make it look nice. Post pics to shut up all the haters.

And you'll wonder why your house languishes in a booming market for months and months.

We at dcum will post pictures (from zillow) of your ghetto pool and begin a thread entitled, "Holy Crap! That Pool!"

The thread will go to seven pages.

File that permit, OP.

This thread would be amazing.

Why wouldn't you get a permit, seriously? What is the downside of getting a permit?
