I grew up with coconut oil pressed from our own trees. We use it for cooking and beauty purposes, but no one makes a fuss over it.
It is certainly a good oil for many purposes, but the same can be said of many others. There is nothing especially miraculous about coconut oil.
As someone born in India, I find the coconut oil hype absolutely ludicrous.
I'm the pp who posted about our home-made coconut oil, and I'm also from (southern) India. Some savvy marketers have figured out a good way to make a buck.
I'm from South India too and love coconut oil! Use it on my hair, baby's skin and hair, in cooking, you name it. It's versatile and tastes delicious. I use it because I grew up with it though, not because of some purported miraculous properties.
