Different Kenmore parent: my daughter tells me the school is considering opening up 8th grade Biology also to a group of students who aren't in algebra in 8th grade as well, which would be good, because there's nothing about Biology that requires algebra!

Note: Algebra, Biology, Geometry, Spanish I (full year), Spanish II (full year) are all high school courses so the students that follow that track will leave middle school with 5 high school credits. Not sure how they are used once you get to high school, but at least those students will already exposed to the courses which could help if they have to take them again in high school.

I am happy to hear the good reviews. I had applied for CMIT charter school program and was trying to determine if i should allow my child to continue in the TAG program and go to Kenmoor or if accepted take the CMIT space. I am feeling more comfortable with the academics to allow my child to follow the TAG program and it is good to know that the teachers are well respected in the program. It seems like all of her friends will go to Greenbelt Middle so i was weighing all of my options.

Yes, the above is true. Kenmoor does offer an advanced math and science track for kids in the TAG program. Not all of them, but for a couple of classes. I don't think kids who aren't in the TAG pathway have access to these advanced classes.

I believe up until 2015 or so, 6th grade was only TAG. The neighborhood elementary schools went K-6 and then to middle school grades 7 and 8. So for 6th grade there were just 125 or so 6th graders each year.

Kenmoor parent here. My family has been really pleased. Top academics and caring teachers. Great coordinator who knows the TAG kids and gets involved if there are issues. Many did well on PSAT 8/9. We are expecting 30 to 40 kids to get in S& T this year which is consistent with previous years.


By the way, I’m at the school regularly and have not seen any behavioral issues. In particular, in the TAG program. Ive heard about some minor issues in the non-tag but they rarely interact with tag students other than specials and activities. Also, the school is divided up half tag and half non-tag for 6th, 7th and 8th grades so the earlier post about all of 6th grade being TAG is wrong.

The idea of judging the school on its location

Those are good numbers to encourage parents to try to stay in the local TAG programs through middle school. My child will be leaving Glenarden woods this year and we have been looking at our options for middle school. I am relieved to know that Kenmoor will be a great choice for us. Private school prices for middle school are outrageous. We may need to stay in TAG until 8th and look at private either in high school if we do not test into Science and Tech.

Anecdotally, I'd say about 1/5 of the students in the TAG program at Kenmoor tested into Science and Tech.

To funny 200 a month, i agree the TAG programs are overall highly regarded. I would think that those who apply to CPA or CMIT would be students who are not in the TAG program. I have heard mixed reviews about Kenmoor however, it seems that most parents will complain but keep their kids in the program. It would be interesting if we could find out how many students from Kenmoor test into the science and tech high school programs at Roosevelt or other high schools. I don't think people are idiots, but I would say that the TAG program at Kenmoor is pretty highly regarded. I'd choose it over College Park Academy and probably over CMIT. Private school -- would depend on what the entrance criteria are for the private school. Of course, private school would need to cost me less that $200 a month so I could afford it!!
