Reading the Rook now and loving it. Already looking forward to the sequel "Stiletto"!

I know this is a classic and you've probably read it, but I really love 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea. Such an amazing book with rich details.

Have you read name of the wind and its sequel by Patrick rothfuss? Incredibly well written and engrossing, I couldn't put it down.

You guys are great, thanks for the recommendations! I'm picking up the Magician Trilogy, The Martian, and The City and the City for now and will probably come back to this thread and pick up a few more for the return flight. Appreciate the Sanderson recommendations as I started the Wheel of Time a long time ago (uh...20 years ago?) and heard he finished up for Jordan and is a good writer. I might start with those next.

Robert Jordan... the series finally finished with book 14. Gets a but sluggish around books 8 & 9, but definitely delivers in the end!

also, try Raymond Feist - several different series, but a good stand alone book is Faerie Tale,

I also like the Harry Dresden books (Jim Butcher). It's useful to read them in order, but I started (accidentally) in the middle and wasn't lost.

Brandon Sanderson's The Way of Kings and Words of Radiance (first two books of his Stormlight Archive that's planned to be a ten-book series). Those two novels should take you around the world and back!

This is what I was going to recommend, and its sequel.

Also, more fantasy/romance than what you're asking for, but the Outlander series is long and juicy (the first 3 or 4 books are the best, I never got through book 5).

The Bone Clocks. All 600 + pages should take you through a chunk of the first flight at least.

I loved The City and the City. What a cool book. I still think about it and I read it a couple of years ago.
