Not true. Publics are required to fill quotas from the state and often they include racial quotas.
The sat/GPA intercept is at the HS level, not the state level, that is how they get regional distribution around the state.
Public schools to public in-state colleges, you mean? If that's the case, then there's no reason my friend's daughter was denied from Va Tech.

At the very top schools, its really the stats that matter (GPA and test scores). Regardless of what you read on these boards, Unless you have the tope number 2300 plus etc. you are wasting your time...DESPITE A PAGE OR TWO OF ECs!

Been through the college admission process once already and the zillions of ECs some kids have are a total waste of time. One or two, MAX.

At the very top schools, its really the stats that matter (GPA and test scores). Regardless of what you read on these boards, Unless you have the tope number 2300 plus etc. you are wasting your time...DESPITE A PAGE OR TWO OF ECs!

My daughter's sat scores mimic her school's sat range perfectly. She's at the upper end but the school has a very focused range with a blatant lopsidedness. It's not surprising that she got in AND chose to go there. It is a numbers game. Sometimes the numbers involved are monetary sometimes they're ability based. But it's still all about the numbers. At her school, which is well regarded for CS, there was not a single acceptance to the major that did not have an app making money. Sometimes you don't know the number they are looking for.

This is true. Large publics have many, many normal smart students.

It's mostly resume padding.
