Well bully for them. My kid is in first grade at a terrible school after loosing out on the lottery FOUR TIMES. I'm moving. A "safe" school? The safe schools are safe because they aren't good.

We're only in PK3, so I'd just keep my kid in her daycare center, which has a PK3 program.

Taking child out of private that I can't afford, and not moving. At worst, we'll get into our IB, unless its popularity has shot up the way of Powell, but I think we're 2-3 years away still from that. Our IB has pros and cons and unknowns.

My kid is already in K and it's okay for K but not for 1st and above. Wonder what the likelihood is that any of the *hot* charters and OOBs schools will have an opening for first...

This is for PK-4: We already were waitlisted at the private schools we applied for this year. It depends on the school but I might take a second look at the "lower" tier schools we had on our list.

Then most likely move to upper NW or Arlington for K.

Oh one more year of daycare expenses won't kill us. There is even a Spanish/Mandarin immersion daycare in NE DC we just became aware of (targeting immersion).

We struck out for both PK3 and PK4 but ended up very happy at our IB. Then got into our #1 (MV) for K and I now feel we've had the best of all worlds.

Everyone will get in somewhere for PS 3 and PK 4, and if you don't, consider your IB school for those two years. I've heard consistently good results across the city for the 3 and 4 year old program. Then keep playing, rinse, repeat.

Got in top lottery chose by Pre-K 4. Chances may lessen a bit, but aren't impossible. The only reason I'd move now is because of the question of interest rates. Otherwise, give another year a chance.

PS3 parent- daycare for another year, although that will really hurt financially (will have two in daycare at the same time).
