For a while I attempted to shut this down by deflecting with a snide comment "When H gets another wife." or "When you offer to pay for everything associated with the child." It got old, so I got more direct and rude about it. People stopped asking.

When my mother bugged me about having more kids, I went into excruciating detail about DHs vasectomy. Shut her down real quickly I figured if she wanted to be that involved in our personal life.

Funny to me that she thinks these kinds of comments would change your mind! I have three kids so I am not in your mind frame but those kinds of comments would just make me feel more stubborn

OP here - I ended up texting my mom, apparently it was bothering me much more than I thought (she said some of the comments this past weekend in front of my daughter, who was playing and didn't appear to hear them, but I wanted to make sure they stopped). She said I wouldn't hear anything from her again on the topic. I'm sure she's disappointed and sad, but hopefully she will stop and just accept it.

This is us. Sometimes you just feel your family is complete. No need to justify it to anyone.

We take our child to Europe several times a year and honestly, the though of dealing with an infant gives me PTSD.

If anyone in my family starts talking about it, I roll my eyes dramatically and walk away.
