Just to correct the above point - Most c-sections take less than an hour. Mine took about an hour and a half. There are certain conditions ( in my case adenomyosis) that complicate the process.

Wait- this might be a dumb question but how long does a c-section take? We are TTC right now and there is a strong chance I will not be a VBAC candidate, but I was completely under for my c-sec with DC1, it was a crash emergency situation so I was rushed into an OR and put under (thank god!) but I have no real concept of time of what happened and I really was so very out of it on the post-surgery drip that I didn't even make it down to the NICU until like noon the next day (surgery was at 10:30pm ish) sadly- but I had no idea the playlist would be this long!
To clarify, that was my playlist for DW's labor -- not C section. We didn't know how long it would go. And generally I create really long playlists and then just leave them on shuffle--they're more like radio stations than playlists. (I made most of them before there was pandora, and I still like mine better.)
Sorry, didn't mean to give you anxiety.

Keep in mind that you will likely not be able to have headphones on. Your OB will use cautery during the surgery, and any metal on your skin may cause burns. You could ask your OB to play some soothing music during the surgery over the OR speakers, though. I think most OBs would be happy to oblige.

Just ask your doctor OP. He/she will know if it's allowed in the OR.
But also let them know that you're anxious. I did that and they definitely gave me some drug that helped because I was totally calm and comfortable.
Really, it will be ok. What is totally unknown and scary to you is absolutely garden variety to the folks who do this every day - especially if it's planned.

OP here. Thanks for all of the recommendations! I'll have to look into whether this is allowed or not. I did post a thread recently about C-section anxiety, and folks mentioned music (I hate hospital sounds, so am willing to risk missing out on other stuff) and not being fully restrained. People here seem to think both of those aren't true. So hard to figure out what to expect!
