I like to make a pasta sauce like bolognese or amatriciana. You can make a big batch if you have a lot of people and you can freeze the leftovers, which taste even better the second time around.

In cold weather I like to do chicken pot pie.

I've made this a couple of times, and people do indeed enjoy it and ask for the recipe. The sour cream and provolone sound weird, I admit, but when baked the sour cream mimics a bechamel sauce, and the provolone adds a little more depth of flavor than using only mozzarella.

If we're entertaining it's generally for another family with kids. In the winter I often make spaghetti and meatballs, garlic bread, salad. In the summer we grill chicken or flank steak, serve w sweet potato fries and a salad.

Roast chicken or braised beef short ribs, with roasted vegetables.

Not fancy summer: steaks or grilled dijon chicken with corn, potato salad, and macaroni salad.

Appetizers: I go to Eden Center and get a platter of 24 spring rolls for $12. People are always impressed.

Re ziti: mound out my friends delicious ziti recipe is a jar of pasta sauce + a jar of Alfredo sauce (and noodles and cheese). But it really is good! Try that to start PP
