When I worked at the Dept of Social and Public Health Services (Canada) my husband used to (half) joke that I worked at the health food store. At least he got the health part right.

My husband doesn't know exactly what I do either and we're both Feds. But it's understandable since I'm matrixed to other organizations and my title doesn't match my duties, etc.

I vaguely know what directorate and division he's in and his supervisor's name. It's pretty common with feds. The organizational structure of agencies is hard.

My branch within my Division at my Agency has reorganized and changed names three times. I cannot remember what it is called when asked. Frankly. No. One. Cares. You have a job and a title in the federal government. Everything else is just wrapping paper.

It depends.

But men for the most part do not carry information around in their minds as well as us women.

And you did say it has only been eight months.

Which is eight days in a man's mind.

The more important thing for him to know is how to get in touch with your office in an emergency.

Anonymous wrote:OP, I hate to break this to you, but if you are a fed you speak a language that no one in the real world understands. If you are telling us that you are a GS - 10 deputy under secretary to the assistant director of XX department at the YY subagency of the Department of ZZ, do you really expect non-bureaucrats to get that? (Let alone, appreciate what you do?)

Don't feel bad OP. My DH can't pronounce my last name.

You work at a greeting card company and that's all he needs to know.

Mine forgot the name of my workplace at a school event for new parents. (Someone had asked him, and i was across the room in another conversation.) I was mortified, but he was taking in a lot of info that night -- new faces, names, etc. -- so i let it go. Id be more upset in your situation.

I'm not upset! I was a little bit hurt and mopey-ish and I had the potential to get more upset, but pps talked me off the ledge.

I guess sometimes I feel like DH is completely disinterested in what I like and what I do so I'm oversensitive.

I also expected you to be in the clandestine services!

And I'm a devoted Americans fan. Best show in a long time.
