The application numbers have increased every year for the last several years. Applicants are definitely wait-listed. We know of at least 5 students who did not get into 9th grade two years ago, and that is only from the school our DC was attending.

And in the 80's and 90's, Maret was where kids who got kicked out of other schools for disciplinary problems ended up. But although it's widely accepted that Maret is different now, apparently Bullis is exactly the same as it always was.

We turned down a Big 3 to send our child there, and haven't regretted it. Our child is doing great and is very challenged by the courseload.

Let's be honest:

1. Whenever someone starts a Bullis thread it, it's done solely because the OP wants to elicit replies that bash the school.

2. The negativity towards Bullis these days is because it's doing well in the more glamorous sports and that bothers people. It also bothers many people that they have more African-Americans that the other IACs.

What bothers people is not that they are doing well but how they are going about trying to achieve it. If the families there are happy great. But you are also supporting the way they are doing is so be prepared to take the heat if you keep bragging about the football and basketball teams.

In response to 9:26 above, same here. Bullis is a great school and was an excellent fit for both of our children who went on to Ivy League schools. (I note this only because of the comments on DCUM about Bullis academics). When it comes to much of the snarky and nasty comments about Bullis on this Forum, I would urge people to ignore them completely. Look at the website, talk to Bullis families and visit the school. You will be very glad you did.

I guarantee that kid was not a recruited athlete.

Agree with 21:27 definitely know kids from publics who did not get in to Bullis in last several years. I think if they let more qualified public school kids over dumb private school kids it would definitely raise their academic profile.

Bullis accepts all of its transfer students - especially those who flunk out or are kicked out of other privates.

We couldn't get in to the Bullis MS after application season last spring. Classes totally full. I think the only ones who may be "guaranteed" admission are kids from other privates transferring in or going to US. The independents take care to place kids who've been in the private system - that's where the word that anyone can get into Bullis (or other safeties) comes from. But if you're new to privates, there are no guarantees. There just aren't enough spots for everyone.
