I would say that's definitely true if you're comparing say, Eggland's Best and Kroger. But even my organic-hating, "more chemicals and convenience please" parents now buy Gerry's or Vital Farms eggs because they think there is a vast taste difference.
Agree with this. It's also about the texture - fresh farm eggs (or Gerry's, I haven't tried Vital Farms but will look for them!) have a larger, thicker yolk. It makes for a smoother, less chalky center in hard-boiled eggs, and richer creamier scrambled eggs.

I think those are The Country Hen, if you've been buying them for a long time. At least, our WFM hasn't had Vital Farms for all that long.
Safeway has started carrying Country Hen.
