The third one was probably the best FWB because our places in life accommodated one another: Crazy schedule, kids, not interested in a relationship. It was straight to the point: get naked, do it, get dressed, maybe talk for a while before going home.

I think this is the only way it can work out. Because if you are spending time together as "Friends" outside the bedroom, then feelings will come in to play eventually.

As others have already listed:

1) absence of negative things that would mess up my life or are scary:
- not crazy
- not emotionally needy (preferably also in a sexless but otherwise fulfilling relatinship)

2) presence of positive things I'd want to add to my life:
- a friend (someone you can talk to and enjoy for more than just sex)
- enthusiastic about physical pleasure
- attractive

That's pretty much it. I'm not looking for one though.

And more importantly, he should have some sort of fatal flaw that keeps me from getting more attached. Because that's the big risk with a FWB. (besides STD's or pregnancy, but there are ways to avoid those.) I've had a couple of FWB's because sometimes it's easier/nicer than going without sex for years on end when you're not meeting people you want to date. The best one was a guy who was too financially irresponsible for me to date seriously, but h was great otherwise.

Similar here. Financially irresponsible, brilliant but really stupid about office politics. Other more minor stuff: not a morning person, not religious. But oh my what he taught me in bed....

The first word is "friend." Someone who's fun and can be trusted.

After that, large yavos are nice.

I've had 3 since my divorce a few years ago.

The first one developed feelings right away, which let me know that she always had them. I would say that's the first thing you need to check for: Make sure there are no secret feelings.

I realized that I was starting to develop feelings for the second one, so we stopped that right away. We had an agreement up front that we'd let the other know if that happened. We're still friends a year later. I say, set up an arrangement like that.

The third one was probably the best FWB because our places in life accommodated one another: Crazy schedule, kids, not interested in a relationship. We just wanted the company of another person from time to time without the obligation that comes from a real relationship. Sex was a steam release valve for us. I would prefer someone who doesn't / hasn't / isn't sleeping around with everyone and anyone that they can have sex with!
