Not luxury stuff, but with young kids and dogs, we consider it relatively disposable and will upgrade some day down the road when everything isn't ruined within minutes of entering our house. But the quality has been fine if you're not looking for heirloom pieces.

A lot of high quality goods are made in China, including some high priced furniture from high end brands. It's about the standards of the company doing the quality control. They are going to make it to the level that the company requires.
Nothing pasted together with glue and formaldehyde is high end - even if Pottery Barn is selling it for a high price (which it does).
