Kramer vs. Kramer always makes me a weeping mess. So good! I agree, I would watch A movie about a cabbage if Streep was playing the lead.

I'm old. I think one of her best performances was Kramer vs Kramer. An amazing movie (and I also love Dustin Hoffman).

Yes. Or Out of Africa.

I just saw it again recently, and I wondered if it would be dated. It wasn't - it still took my breath away. She is amazing.

OP, only once in a very long while does someone come along who is so uniquely talented in their field. Streep is one of them.

Oh, I watched Out of Africa last night for the first time in many years. So, so wonderful. ~sob!~

I agree she is the best actress of our generation.

Just fabulous range of role, from dramatic to funny ....and she looks fabulous too.

And more importantly is Jennifer Aniston pregnant or not??

Oh dear, PP. Did you actually mention Meryl Streep and Jennifer Aniston in the same post?

Yes. was that a faux pas? Jen came on the TV as i was typing and i got distracted ..

I glanced her out of the corner of my eye and thought, whoa, is she pregnant?

The Deer Hunter, Julie & Julia, The Iron Lady, Silkwood.

Yeah, Sophie's Choice had me weeping for days. All of her work is great. August, Osage County was not a good movie but she was awesome in it. She really made me hate her.

I think she's admired in the industry not just for her talent, but b/c she's a consummate professional and she seems to be a nice person.

She's widely considered to be one of the hardest working people on any set, even now when she could clearly just phone it in if she wanted to. She is famous for knowing entire scripts, backwards and forwards, every actor's line. I think she is also admired for managing to stay relevant while maintaining a marriage, a family, and some modicum of privacy.

She does accents and weepy well:

She's a good character actress, e.g., Julia Child role, but I don't get the hoopla either.
