It's an Honors College, so a 3.0 is not good enough, unless your child has a hook, like dance or music or is a fabulous sailor. The school needs to market itself better. I know a child there who LOVES it, and he's super-smart, from one of the better MD high schools. His parents are cheerleaders for the school. He wanted a low-key, non-competitive atmosphere with good academics, and found it at SMC.

Agree with everything PP said except bold.

I feel like St. Mary's is one of those "hidden gems." Kids who go there (and their parents) seem to love it. Private liberal arts feel and approach with a in-state price tag - very nice.

Thank you so much everyone. It is very helpful to see how the school is perceived because I am not from this area originally. I am ready to pay in state and I like the place very much.

It's different from W&M, in a good way. Crunch, sailing is big, very progressive. Not an academic competitive vibe.

Which is good, cause the OP could not get in. It's a good school, I know some of the professors!

Yeah, except the isolation is going to be a dealbreaker for a lot of prospective students. Williamsburg may not be a party town, but at least it means there's more to your college than the college.
