It's V-day (cringe) and I am with my kids. I gave them each a chocolate rose and told them how much I cherish them.
I thought about buying myself some white roses (my absolute favorite) but didn't do it. Meh.
Do whatever makes you happy, whatever you generally love doing for yourself. Go get a mani-pedi, wax whatever you wax, get a facial, a blow out. Then vacuum, like Melanie Griffin in Working Girl. Have your own celebration.
I'm taking a break from organizing my kitchen. Judge away! It's how I choose to "celebrate" this "holiday." Oh, and I'm online buying clothes for my kids for camp this summer. Hurrah. Whatever.
This is just another Saturday. Don't get hung up on the commercial weight of Valentine's Day. You only hurt yourself.

I appreciate. I am in a better mindset cuz of you. Keep up the kindness. Some of us out there appreciate it.![]()
Off to get my flirt on! And kudos on the suggestion of V-day dick.Love it!
And to the snarks out there - your comments are not appreciated and frankly in my little moment of "woe is me", just not kind.
Tootles to your snarkiness. I just won't listen to that crap.
I now see why you are alone.
Nah - I just have decent expectations to be treated with respect. I know, silly me.
Whatever snarkers! DC is just chock full of entitled douchebags like this one. A dime a dozen. I'm just happy I don't put up with bs like this anymore.
Anonymous wrote:OP, I felt a lot like you do on many Christmases and Thanksgivings past. I left home at 17 and every year, was faced with the fact that I was sitting by myself and didn't have the joyous, Christmas special and Hallmark ad family Christmas.
Then I'd listen to my friends complain about how uncle Jake got drunk and thew up on the turkey, the kids were brats because they were tired, there was nothing but dollar perfume under the tree, and everyone had a cold.
So I started volunteering at the hospital on those days and saw a lot of people who didn't have even the warm bed and Warm food I was going home to.
Point is- most holidays are made up. They're made up by stores to make you buy, and by the media to generate stories/ generate advertising dollars.
It doesn't make you feel any better, but your valentines alone will be amazing if you decide to make it a day to romance yourself. Because really at the end of the day.. That feels better than pinning all these expectations.
I'd suggest going out, getting a kick ass bottle of sparkling wine, something amazing take out or to cook, a foot soak and a gorgeous new set of pyjamas.
FWIW, I've noticed that everyone on my FB stream going on about how much they love their wife/husband is generally attention seeking and probably not that happy. Do you have to announce it to everyone on Facebook? On v day? How predictable.
I'd bet half these folks are going through the motions of flowers and dinner, while inwardly seething at each other, or questioning their relationship.
DH and I will have a usual Saturday evening at home. I'll make something nice for dinner, we'll get a nice bottle of wine, but that's it. No different than last Saturday, other than he has a miserable snotty cold. But, it's just a day. And it's the same for a lot of people, we just don't capitalize on the advertising time that the people who need YOU to know how special their relationship is. So smile to yourself and know you're smarter than them... And not nearly half as miserable.

I had plenty of horrible Valentine's Days when I was single, and a few really fun ones.
Since I've been married, it's about the same.
Today I have a fabulous husband, two cute boys, fun plans for a family Valentine's Day -- and the flu. What are you going to do?
Stop moping. It's not that big of a deal.
This.
