Agree. DS is in Compacted Math and was recommended for IM for next year but there are only 6 children in his High School Cluster Compacted Math class that feed into our Middle School. So only 6 6th graders are ready for IM --- no way!! My DD took IM two years ago in 6th grade and at least 25% of the grade was in it and did fine, great even. That had to be over 50 kids and two years later only 6 are ready for it under 2.0??? If your child entering 6th is good in Math (not even great) AND you have concerns that they will be bored, I would definitely fight for being placed in IM! It is too selective now when more kids can successfully handle the challenge.Anonymous wrote:Had to fight with a counselor to get my son in advanced classes that he was not recommended for. He's gotten nothing lower than a "B" in any of those classes. Fight for your kid if you think he (and you) can handle the challenge.
