Me, too, OP, and I'm sorry we share this experience.

Don't feel embarrassed and don't worry about what is normal. You need help to get through this and your Dr sounds like a good practitioner who is trying to help you.

If you can, bring someone to support you and drive you home in case the meds make you sleepy.

I have to be sedated for dental work. I know my anxiety is totally irrational, but that doesn't mean I can help it.

There is NOTHING for you to be embarrassed or ashamed about. Better living through chemistry!

Op here, I believe that I am embarrassed about having anxiety overall. But that's another topic.

The alternative is not having the exam, and having the pap is important so if it takes swallowing a Valium to make it work for you, don't feel guilty about it.
