I think you need to think about what you were really giving to the friendship. You were not supportive or understanding and with an offensive comment like that, you don't even make a good fair weather friend.

It's can be just co-incident. When I started law school, I had a one year old toddler and barely any time for myself, not to mention my husband or even friends. A lot of friendship just felt apart during that time. I did my best to restore some of them and just let it go with others. Life is going on.

I used to have a friend that would constantly make fun of me; because sometimes I would say things that were not grammatically correct or mis spell something. She would laugh and say oh it's because she's not from this country. This went on for years. I told her to stop and told her how offensive it was. About two years ago, I commented on something on her FB page and she another friend of hers then commented and said oh it's because she's not from this country. Well I got fed up and that was end of our 10 year plus friendship. I can honestly say, I'm much happier without her in my life and put up with her stuff for way too many years.

Maybe your friend was tired of it too.

OP sounds like she was annoyed with you for a long time but never spoke up. But for the record, that's a shitty thing to say to a friend who has shared an accomplishment with you. And I'm not even a person who has a problem with a crass sense of humor.

I've cut a few friends out of my life after many years of friendship, just because I'd had enough of whatever annoying thing they did. One was a boozer that crossed boundaries and the other was in an abusive relationship. Never argued or discussed issues, just one day decided these friendships no longer brought value to my life. Maybe your friend is growing up and realized you were of no value.
