Don't you get fewer benefits if you keep less than $5k in your account? I would never dip under that for that reason. I'm trying to do the balance stuff that some pp's do, but my zero would be $5k.

Unless you're planning on buying a car next week, this is insane.

I beg your pardon ? It's not your business if I'm insane or not.

I'm OP and this is incredibly helpful. Yes, i have other funds. But I have seen my checking account flux from a high of $32k to less than $400 this year. For the first time, I find myself transferring funds from savings and I don't like it.

I don't include my cash bonus - which is about 1/2 my bonus in my HHI calc. That goes straight into knocking down debt.

We all manage our money differently and I see my checking account as the money I can spend. Not the money I can save. That is what my savings account is for. Other people seem to use their savings aaccount as a reserve for their checking.

Anonymous wrote:A better question would be how liquid are you. That is, how much money can you access within a day. Brokerage/investments do not count (options take a day to clear, equities take 3 days to clear).

I'll go first: 225k hhi, 3k in checking, 15k in savings
Start your own post with your question. Perhaps OP asked the specific question for which she wanted the answers.

Agree, $2k in checking, the rest in savings and investments. Now what.

HHI is $280k, but we use our checking for bills only. So it literally has $10 more than whatever it takes to pay our bills each month. We parcel money out into savings accounts, personal accounts, etc.
