The Quality Suites in Rockville. Right on the 270 so super convenient for the delights of Germantown or the fleshpots of Gaithersburg.

But why drive when you can take a stroll around the campus of Kaplan University, enjoy a coffee at Starbucks, or see what's cooking at Red Lobster?

South Beach. My husband and I are going (again!) for 4 days, no kids. It's a 2 hour flight from DCA, so you're not taking up time traveling. Lots of flights in/out so you can get home in a pinch if you need to. You don't need a car once you get there... take a cab to your hotel (we stay at the Ritz Carlton) and from there you can walk to all the restaurants and shops. Nice pool, nice spa, the ocean, nightlife... it's our no-brainer choice for a long weekend.

We are going in April.

You could ride your bikes down Pike's Peak!

Miami, NYC, New Orleans, San Juan. I wouldn't want to do something outdoorsy b/c I'd like to take my kids on those things -- I'd rather do a big city: fine dining, cocktails, museums, browse a book in a cafe for a few hours... ah.

Find an adults-only resort.

Otherwise, you'll find yourself pining for your family, feeling guilty, wondering about them, etc. when you see other families out together.

I know Jamaica has a few couples-only resorts. No kids. They are awesome. You get a mix of honeymooners, people like me and DH who leave the kids with grandma, and retirees. Good mix, good crowd.

When our oldest was little we did a 4 day trip to London and then the next year a 5 day trip Paris. Both were great, tons to do and romantic! Nonstop flight makes it totally doable. Otherwise I'd do something intensely outdoorsy (b/c that's hard for kids) with hiking or kayaking or diving/snorkeling.

Anonymous wrote:Grand Cayman is great if you want to give diving a try. I'd recommend the Ritz or Westin or the Marriott Beach Resorts there. We've also had good luck with condos on GC. My dream 4 days would be to the Dorado Beach Hotel (a Ritz Carlton Reserve) in Puerto Rico.

Travel to either is easy with nonstop flights and nearby airports to both. Bonus is that PR needs no passport.

I think you'd want a nonstop flight.

Glad you posted this, fun to think about.
I'd go to NYC. Since 4 days is such a short time frame, I wouldn't want to spend too much time traveling. The weather is so nice in May in this part of the world, I wouldn't feel the need to seek out a different climate. I'd try to do all the great things one can do in NYC without kids in tow. Theater, art, music, restaurants.
God, I'm jealous ...

We did a great 4 night trip to San Francisco & Big Sur. Direct flights to SF, one night there (with great meals) and then drove down to Big Sur. We stayed at Ventana, about $700 per night. Post Ranch Inn also looks absolutely amazing - I think it was closer to $1100/night so we didn't stay there. Took gorgeous hikes every day, and ate amazing meals. 4 nights felt right for us, but I suppose you could cut out one night in Big Sur and still have a great trip.

I also think London would be super-fun - but that is a place that is also really fun with kids.
