There was one in December 2010


It will be interesting to see if they use that option. I've been told that they prefer to keep the kids in school once they're there because it can cause problems to send kids home early (no one's at home, parents get stuck in traffic, etc.). The problem is that if you keep them at school, you could end up sending them out in a bad weather situation.

For situations like this, I tell my boss something like, I likely will not be in tomorrow but depending on the weather I may be able to come in late morning, or I will be in late tomorrow. I am planning to be in by __ but depending on the weather that may change. Then I update in the morning once I know which it is.

All Fairfax County public schools and school offices will open two hours late today (Condition 3). Central offices will open at 10 a.m.

Two-Hour Early Closing

Condition 4

All Fairfax County public schools and offices will close two hours early today (Condition 4).

Schools Closed with Delayed Opening for School Offices and Central Offices

Condition 5

All Fairfax County public schools will be closed today. School offices and central offices will open at [TBD] (Condition 5).

Afternoon and Evening Activities Canceled

Condition 6

All activities scheduled in Fairfax County public schools or on school grounds for this afternoon and evening are canceled (Condition 6).

Evening Activities Canceled

Condition 7

Facilities and school grounds will be closed starting at 6:15 p.m. (Condition 7). All activities scheduled in Fairfax County public schools or on school grounds for this evening must be completed by 6:15 p.m. or are canceled

Saturday and/or Sunday Activities Canceled

Condition 8

All activities scheduled in Fairfax County public schools or on school grounds for [Saturday] [Sunday] are canceled (Condition 8).

it hasn't happened yet but I do think it's allowed.


What school? My kids are out of elementary, but I don't remember doing this.


It's a standard form in Arlington.


Oh, okay, we're in FCPS. I don't think we do that here.
