The gods Horus and Mithras, who were born of virgins, then died and rose again have nothing in common with Moses or Mohammed.
Oh, just stop it and let OP get back to her thread subject.
OP here. I wish the first person complaining about the Horus/Mithras poster had never brought it up. That person, who shows up on other threads complaining about atheists discussing Horus and Mithras, is bothersome. It seems weird to bring up a subject you don't like over and over again -- and then complain when others join the discussion.

The phrase "Horus/Mithras poster" is obviously shorthand for the poster who's always plopping down the shallowest, most uninformed points imaginable. Usually couched in sophomoric jabs at religion. A troll, basically.
the first mention of horus/mithras on this thread was from a Christian bemoaning an atheist who brings up Horus and mithras a lot, while bringing up horus/mithras herself in a conversation that was previously horus/mithras free.

Their daily local and world view is through the lens of evangelical beliefs and all that entails. It's a war as far as they are concerned. That's a big reason why these Tea Party types keep winning.

Just know that as long as the face of atheism is represented on places like DCUM by posters like the Catholic Hating Troll and that atheist who is obsessed with sophomoric and historically loony taunts about Mithras and Horus, it will be hard to shed the whack-job/bogeyman (9:58's word) image completely.
perhaps part of the consciousness-raising process will involve Christians not fixating on what they perceive as "loony taunts." A secure faith needn't be upset by hearing about earlier mythological gods who had some of the same characteristics of Jesus -- something that religious scholars and many ministers are well aware of.
By the same token, people secure in their heterosexual relationship and comfortable with their individual sexuality, aren't threatened by homosexuals expressing their sexual orientation just as openly.
Expecting atheists to shut up about Horus and Mithras would be like expecting gays not to mention their partner or not to hold hands in public -- things that heterosexuals do openly and regularly
Seriously? How can you equate gay rights with that Horus and Mithras gibberish? Those posts about Horus and Mithras were loony, you (it was you, right?) kept bringing them up on different threads and different posters kept telling you that your attempt to link them to Christmas was historically innacurate. You seemed like a small child who keeps trying a failed strategy because you don't have anything more intelligent to bring to the table. Your posts weren't great monents for atheists.
Whereas gays holding hands is a serious civil rights issue.
(PS, you always like to twist this into "you must not be secure in your faith, I gotcha, didn't I, didn't I, huh? Huh? Didn't I?" A little less of that and people wouldn't think atheists are as needy as you.)
No, I wasn't me -- I'm an onlooker -- who is amused that it's the person who supposedly despises mention of Horus and Mithras who continues to bring them up.
Whatever - I'm glad you're open-minded about gays. Perhaps someday it will extend to atheists.
Nope, most of us will never respect that Horus/Mithras poster. Don't let her represent you.
