Hi, why on earth do people think being 40 is old? I am 41 and easily pass for being 32. I am not saying this out of some diva complex. I always get asked for ID when I buy ciggs and alcohol. My teenage daughter is 15 and son is 10. Maybe 20yrs ago people in their 40's were considered old or looked old but nowadays many women and men my age look at least a good 10-15 years younger. My husband is 46 but he does not look a day older than 38 or so and trust me he does not need to color his hair,or style it or wear makeup, LOL

OP hate to tell but you need to reinvent yourself and better to do this now while you still can.
Get your certification is something that will put you into a job soon after graduating - even if you don't love it. You need a stable job and benefits for your kids.
In the meantime start working for Costco or Walmart - or another company where you can get benefits.

I agree that you can try working as a nanny.
Look into posting an ad on either Care.com or Sittercity.com where you can create a profile free of charge.
Also, you can join a nanny agency as well.

I'm work in the federal government and we often hire former teachers looking to change careers as administrative assistants. Sign up with a temp agency that contracts with the federal government (many in this area do). The pay isn't bad and the jobs are more stable than typical temp work.

I don't know you, and was about to make the same suggestion as PP who does.
It sounds like you need to change fields completely, have a revamped "I changed careers" resume and get a new network.
All the settings you have worked in, with only 2 years of work, and being asked to leave a job, even reading between the lines suggests you need to get away from that network to find something.

Could you do anything (volunteering, freelance work) so that you can update your resume with that instead of just having a gap?
Do you like to write? You could look online for freelancing or content marketing opportunities- the pay may not be much to start but can build and it can be done from home. Check out wahm.com for those types of opportunities
