I think we took it to Jared's. Sorry, it was almost 15 years ago and I don't remember for sure. It was not the same place he'd bought the ring, as that was out of state and I wanted to have it adjusted somewhere locally, so we just went with a big-name store thinking that they'd be less likely to pull one over on us (more to lose from bad publicity). Don't know if that's a valid assumption or not, but it worked out for us.

Buy a ring snuggie on Amazon. Small piece of rubber tube you can slip onto the ring and cut to adjust the size and fit. For $5 you can get a few to try.

Jewelers have been known to pop out a fine diamond and slap a lower-quality one in its place. Go to someone reputable.
You could also buy some Sugru and mold your own custom guard.
