The only person I personally know who gets the Japanese treatment has very damaged, brittle looking hair. It scared me off the Japanese stuff for good.
Yes!! I had the Japanese straightening done and it was extremely damaging. My hair broke off with the slightest pull. I ended up with a halo of frizz around my face from the hair that broke off and grew in curly.
I've had keratin a couple of times and although my hair was not quite as maintenance-free as with the Japanese it was not at all damaging.

I have sknce moved to CA and it's worlds cheaper here. In LA I paid $200, in San Francisco I paid $400 and in The town I live in now I pay $500 (figures include tips for everyone).
I have done both Liscio and I-straight. Both systems work the same.
I have course, curly and A TON of hair. I am ethnic, so its very unruly. It used to take me 1 hour to straighten it by myself. Now, I do it 2x a year, and waste NO time (zero) - since its as if I was born with perfectly straight hair. Its truly a miracle for me.
These procedures changed my life. I will pay till the day I die to have these done!!
Yup!! New poster here, and I've had Japanese straightening for eight years now. It costs $600 without tip and I go every three to four months. I agree it is life changing!!!
That is at least $2400/year on hair. That just seems insane to me.
