It will take a LONG time for MCPS to finally come to the conclusion that your child needs testing. It isn't going to happen right away. If you start the process now, maybe in about 6 months to a year, MCPS will test if certain conditions are met. I wouldn't worry about any stigma. If your child needs help, she needs help. There is nothing wrong with accurately diagnosing a disability and getting the help you need. To not figure out that your kid has a disability because you are worried about a nonexistent stigma would be a travesty of the worst kind.
MCPS will drag out the identification process as much as possible. For your child's well being, get a private neuropsychological testing. It will give you a good plan you can begin immediately at home and with the private tutor. The report is like a road map of your child's strengths and weaknesses and how your child learns best.
How can I find one that accepts my insurance? Any recommendations? We have FepBlue (Federal BCBS). I understand private testing is expensive, and I'm not sure we can swing it this year. We were hoping MCPS would do the testing, but I'm realizing that may take a while and may not be ideal.
