I would do it if there was a break from full-time childcare, whether a sitter or camp, or whatever.
but as it stands now, we don't have the $ for a beach house, and neither of us can take off more than 2 weeks.
i'm envious!

No. We don't accept involuntary separations. My DH's job requires travel, but we don't choose to be away from each other. We've been married 28 years.

Umm, except 24-7 care for three children.

So? Many moms do that plus work. Or work from home while watching the children.

Not having to worry about money or working AND getting to live at the beach is pure heaven and a total luxury.

Not if you're in charge of three kids who will inevitably complain about boredom constantly. At least during the school year, the kids are in school. But OP has to still do all the meal planning, grocery shopping, cooking, cleaning, laundry, etc.

We go to the Cape and tons of people do this. I even know a gay couple that does this - one dad spends the summer with the kids, the other comes up from DC from Thursday afternoon-Monday am. Some people also telecommute and spend extended time there.

My boss, a partner at my law firm, does this. His wife lives at their beach house during the summer and he goes nearly every weekend.

We've considered it, and would both love it, but can't quite bring myself to give up that second income.

Meh, if the DW can take a whole summer off and live at the beach it likely means that she does not work outside the home and DH does (likely a lot and makes a lot), which means that her routine at the beach wont be that much different than at home. Also, I would think the DW would be smart enough to know to have a steady stream of adult guests (or make friends at the beach) to help with the inevitable boredom.

Too bad I have a full time job or else I would be pitching this to the DH!

I do this every summer and it's fine. Was tough when the kids were little but I got mother's helpers. Now that the kids are older it's great. I get to spend time with my friends in the evenings during the week and DH gets a lot of work done. He usually spends the last two weeks of August with us.

Or mom. Or both.

I would do this in an heartbeat (take note "affair" poster), but not for any of the beach towns on the Atlantic - California or a Caribbean island. I am a DW, BTW.
