+100. DPW is exacerbating the danger with its slow response to the snow on major streets. I live off Pennsylvania Ave. near Eastern Market and didn't see any plows or salt trucks by 8:30.

I agree with Jeff that Kaya would have needed to make an early call, and at 4 am, there was snow on the ground but little falling, and no snow blowing around like it is now.

A salt truck just came down my street. It had a plow, but the plow was up. It did appear to be spreading salt at least.

I am the last person to defend Kaya Henderson, but she would have had to announce a delay very early and earlier only a dusting of snow was expected. Her mistake was trusting the forecasts. If there is anyone we should pillory, it is weather forecasters.

Not a trace of any roads treated as I got from my neighborhood up to 16th Street and the beltway today. Told kids in DCPS to stay home

The other one I have to eyeroll at is when people say "we can't close the schools, because then the FARMS kids will go hungry" - most of the poor kids from projects and subsidized housing in my neighborhood didn't go to school. Hardly any kids walking, and the metro buses going through their neighborhood were empty when usually they are packed with kids.

Metro is now under a snow plan, so anyone commuting in via bus please check WMATA before getting started.

Not in all of DC. I live in SE and work in NW. My entire drive to work there was not one road plowed, cars sliding (including mine several times) and I saw several people slipping on the sidewalks and one person actually fall.

Yesterday I was laughing at those that were wondering if there would be a delay/closing but now I think they should have just closed. If they can't at least get the main roads plowed that's a huge problem!

It's ridiculous getting in to the schools right now. In NW the roads are particularly bad and bus accidents are abundant. Metro is forcing riders to get off blocks away from their destinations as they refuse to attempt some streets. It was an extremely bad decision and parents should let Kaya have it.

Montgomery County just closed its schools. So there's that. Good luck to the teachers who have to risk life and limb to drive in from MoCo and NoVa for this insanity.
