Recommendations on who to see/not see? Especially interested in feedback on Stixrud and Black.

And, sorry, I'm sure this is covered in the archives, but my search terms pull-up way too many posts to weed through.

Dr. Black is excellent for what you are looking for. He no longer partners with Stixrud, and has his own practice (best decision, in my opinion).

This is his new practice/website http://caatonline.com

We did the initial telephone intake with the Autism Center at Kennedy Krieger about 1 1/2 months ago. They said the wait list to be called to schedule an appointment is 2-3 months, then another few months for the appointment. Therefore a 6-8 month time period from first intake conversation until actual assessment. Our daughter is 7 now, and will likely be 8 when we have the assessment. I hope to get on the cancelation list, but they said we can't until we have an actual appointment scheduled. Just a heads up on KKI timing right now.

Thanks for the clarification, OP. Instead of asking Stixrud about the need for the report, I'd ask Dr. Shapiro why he thinks the evaluation would be helpful.

We had a neuropsych at 7. Also had a psychoeducational eval at 4 done by the school at no cost to us. DS has ASD and his IEP has to be renewed every three yrs so we waited until 7 so the neuropsych was used to requalify and formulate a current IEP.

We did it at 6, though debated waiting a year.

I'd also pay attention to the school schedule. Part of it will be checklists for the teacher to complete, so you don't want to do it in the beginning of the school year, before they've gotten to know your child.
