Exactly. You are stuck waiting so the forms can be signed that you fulfilled the obligation so you get th 99 a night price and not the going rate (which is crazily overinflated). I recall the paperwork stating the spouse had to be there if you are married. They know no one is going to buy a timeshare without the spouse there too which is why they insist both attend.

Can you just go to the waterpark for a day trip? I did that last week. No problems. Leave here at 8:00 a.m. Get to the waterpark just after it opens. (Military discount if you have id). Stay for 5 hrs. Eat lunch there (get in line early). Then hit the road and be back around 5:00p.m. Forget about the time share unless you genuinely have interest in it. Entry is $38 for anyone over 42 inches. I think it's around $30 for those under 43 in. It's $30 with military id.

Honestly, seeing those kiosks for massanutten in the mall immediately turned me off from ever visiting there.

As for your spouse, they will want them there so they can play you off each other (disorient you and the convince you the other actually thinks it's a good deal; in this scenario the wailing 3 yr old works against you)

They will know who is there b/c everyone needs a pass to the water park and facilities. This is not some hotel you can sneak him into the room from the car, they are always watching, always selling, very Baldwin from GGGR.

Why does checkbook matter, all they need is your signature and maybe to really put the screws to you your Ssn and birthdate.

Honestly, I would let this $99 float away and go to timberline or wisp or wintergreen. This huge cesspool indoor water parks are over done. Get outside and get hiking or snow sports.

OP here. DH earns a high hourly rate. His time is worth more than sitting through the presentation. The kid said the spouse did not have to come.

What will happen if I show up to the presentation without DH and the kids? What can they do?

The kid told me my spouse does not have to attend. Do I even have to say DH is my spouse? I rarely put DH and my kid's names on the hotel reservation. I always book our hotels.

Walk out after exactly the amount of time they said it would take. I would pay $99 a night extra to NOT have to sit through a time share presentation.

Why not just get a hotel nearby in Harrisonburg for $89/night? Or rent a house there instead? It's not worth it to do the timeshare thing. There are plenty of reasonably priced rentals available in Massanutten and nearby.

Unfortunately the kid you bought it from isn't the one running it at Massanutten. They Have this down to an art as I'm sure 99% of the folks that go have no intention of buying. You are stuck waiting for the "one person who can sign off" and there is always one super bargin available. Trust me they know how to do this / deal with people who don't want to be there.

I was told 1 hour and not 90 min. I told the guy how painful my 3 hour presentation was at Atlantis and he reassured me this would be short and painless. We'll see how it goes.

How do these sales pitches work on some people but not others? I feel like I would be susceptible!

OP, it is not that bad. Look at it as a price for staying for free. We did it several times when money were short, no regrets. We knew we have no intent to buy any timeshares, so we set for 3 hours (it included the walking tour of the place, so not sitting for all 3 h.). And then we just enjoyed the rest of the time. We don't spend money on weekend getaways, but do travel internationally twice a year. So for us it was a good deal to spend a weekend. Since it is already done, just relax and enjoy it!
