We do that. They just say "in a bit" or "not right now"
My ILs are like that except with TV. They came after my daughter was born and spent five months watching tv for 8+ hours a day in a different room and leaving messes for me to take care of.

I think this expectation is so bizarre. None of my grandparents got on the floor and played with me and I would have thought it was weird if they had.
