What about an experience for example, tickets to a horse show, or a week at horse camp, maybe a trip to assateague?

Oh well, never mind. When you say "are you crazy" that indicates a person, not a price. But you will find that horse people generally are crazy, so welcome to the madhouse if your daughter sticks with it.

Umm…the OP said that her daughter was the one who was into horses, not the adult OP. I don't know too many nine year olds who on their own can acquire a farm, 4 horses, a truck, a trailer and support themselves through mucking stalls. If you do, please tell.

That PP complained about high prices and I said she wasn't into horses much yet if she thought the prices on these things are high compared to the outrageous prices on everything else horse related. And that is true. Her daughter is into horses, but she isn't. She called me "crazy" so I apologize if I got a bit snippy in return, but of the people here who know what horse kids like, I feel qualified to speak on this subject. This PP doesn't even seem to know what a Breyer horse is.

I called the price crazy. Maybe spending $45 on a single horse toy isn't crazy for you, but it is for me. I'm sorry I struck a nerve.

PP, I am sorry for being snippy with you. I am sure your daughter loves horses and I am glad you are supporting her. But I would suggest holding your tongue and not calling people "crazy" when they suggest a nice horse-related gift that might not be exactly what you would buy. It sets people up especially when it is something so standard to horse kids' rooms as a Breyer horse. You might find it expensive but I assure you they are extremely common gifts. If OP wants something cheaper, she does not need to buy that one.

I just suggested that one because it is a model that I imagine will be very popular this year because of the recent book and movie. Buying, for example, a random toy western horse for a kid who likes jumping is very kind but a little bit of a miss gift-wise. I would have still played with it endlessly, but would prefer something else. Snowman should appeal to all because he is famous. And the mold could be used for anything so would work if she likes another kind of riding, probably because he was a family horse too.
Anyway, just wanted to explain why I picked an "expensive" recommendation.

Also, the full size ones play well with dolls like Barbies and whatnot, the smaller ones are too small for them to ride.

Better yet, you could even drive her down near Harrisonburg and visit/take a lesson with Harry himself. What a cool thing that would be while he is still around, he has to be nearly 80 by now. We called him the Galloping Grandfather when I was a kid. If you are really into horses, that is.

Au contraire. My almost-9 year old has been taking horseback riding lessons year round for 3 years. She has clothes, helmets, boots, gear, dolls, toys, DVDS, books, sheets, blankets, pillowcases, towels and 3 horse-shaped purse/backpacks. But I still would not pay $45 for a plastic toy.

BTW, PP, in case you haven't kept up with horses, Frank Chapot cloned Gem Twist, so there is a young stallion now named Gemini Twist with all his DNA. Soon there will be little baby Gems around, which was not possible before because he had been gelded before he became an Olympic champion. Very cool!

Target has a good knock off horse for their 18 inch dolls that my dd likes very much.

There are some great book series for her age group. I enjoyed The Saddle Club books, as well as the Thoroughbred series (starts with A Horse Called Wonder).
