It would not make sense for Bethune to feed to DCI. It 50% English/50% Spanish through second grade only. In the upper grades it reverts to a traditional program.

I am curious. Does DCUM posters determine what schools are HRS? What are the metrics for appointing a school as HRS?

We are in PreK3 and doing lottery for our IB school. We are thrilled with our current school for early elementary but not as happy with the older grades.

Our neighborhood school may be a better fit long term.

Actually, an anonymous forum + visits to actual schools and talking to actual staff and parents is the PERFECT way to get real information on schools. There are some negatives of schools that parents in person are just not going to say because they don't want anyone to be able to point to them and say "Well that parent told me the Principal never listens to parents!" or whatever the negative is.

I've been on this forum for years, and been in and out of a lot of schools (visiting, checking out, talking to parents). I find that when my friends tell me the inside story on their schools, on the negatives they often reveal things I read first on DCUM but otherwise have not heard anyone say in real life.

Anonymity offers freedom in so many ways. Yes, some abuse it, misrepresent themselves or facts to serve their agenda. But it also offers cover. Shining Stars is a great example - how many of us would have learned the levels of what happened if it wasn't for this anonymous forum? Did some people go too far or use it as an opportunity to unfairly trash the school? Probably. But there was much more real, actual accounts of the situation this year and many would never say that much if this wasn't anonymous.

No one is shy about sharing positives and being identified as the speaker. But negatives or the inside story on scandals/blow ups are mostly not going to come from face to face interaction if you don't know people well.

So anonymous fora are a GREAT place to get REAL info on schools! You just have to take it all with a grain of salt, and follow up with actual visits to any schools you actually are interested in.

Stokes is very highly regarded by me. This is my daughter's first year there and we are not playing the lottery.

Appletree and Haynes are HRCS. Bethune is PRCS (poorly regarded charter school).

I definitely would not put Appletree and Haynes on a HRCS list. And I wouldn't put Shining Stars on a MRCS list, based on the fiascos last year. They are lucky they still have a charter.

I would put Stokes on the HRCS list, especially now with the DCI feed.

Good point PP, even if Stokes has fallen from "the most HRCSs" list, it's still highly in demand as the only public French bilingual program, and Spanish, and it's a DCI feeder. And many families still love it there. So even with test score concerns and some other concerns some have expressed, it's still certainly a HRCS.

Not when you have Spanish immersion in the mix. it's medium at best.
